CelcomDigi Rolls Out S.A.F.E. Internet Survey 2026 to Study How Malaysian Youth Navigate Online Threats

CelcomDigi has released the results of its S.A.F.E Internet survey, a nationwide study focused on how young people across Malaysia perceive and respond to online safety risks. The initiative aims to shed light on digital behaviours, awareness gaps, and opportunities to strengthen internet literacy among youth in an increasingly connected world.

The survey found that while many youths recognise familiar online threats such as phishing or suspicious links, fewer are aware of emerging risks associated with social media misuse, data privacy breaches, and deceptive digital content. These insights suggest that even digitally active young people may lack a complete understanding of the breadth and depth of cyber threats they can encounter.

One notable finding from the survey is that although a majority of respondents use the internet daily for social interaction, education, and entertainment, only a smaller proportion reported feeling confident in identifying harmful or misleading online content independently. This points to a gap between everyday digital usage and deeper comprehension of safe internet practices.

CelcomDigi's study also highlighted variations in awareness levels across different age groups within the youth segment, as well as differences based on education and exposure to digital safety information. According to the report, participants with prior access to structured digital safety education were significantly more aware of risks and demonstrated stronger confidence in managing those threats.

In response to these findings, CelcomDigi has reiterated its commitment to championing safer internet practices through collaboration with educational institutions, community stakeholders, and digital safety advocates. Through awareness campaigns, educational resources, and tailored programmes, the company aims to empower young people with the skills they need to navigate online environments safely and responsibly.
