Deutsche Telekom Joins Bridge Alliance to Boost Global IoT Roaming & Multi-Country Connectivity

Deutsche Telekom IoT, part of the DT Business unit, has officially joined the Bridge Alliance, marking the first time a European telecom operator has become a member of this Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Africa, and Europe‐spanning mobile operator alliance. This move aims to enhance global IoT roaming, multi-country connectivity, and simplified contract structures for enterprise customers engaged in international Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) deployments.

Bridge Alliance currently includes 35 member operators and claims a collective customer base of over one billion. Its purpose is to enable enterprises to roll out IoT and connected device solutions across many countries without the hassle of negotiating multiple contracts or setting up separate connectivity arrangements for each nation. By pooling resources and sharing best practices among operators, the alliance supports uninterrupted roaming, regulatory compliance, local data handling, and network interoperability.

Through its membership, Deutsche Telekom now offers global companies easier access to Asia-Pacific regions using its T IoT Hub as a centralized point of contact for services. This gives businesses options for standardized device management, unified SIM provisioning, cross-border IoT connectivity, and better device lifecycle management under a single management and service layer.

One of the challenges in international IoT deployments involves regulatory restrictions: some jurisdictions prohibit permanent roaming, or restrict data transfer across borders. The Bridge Alliance helps address these by ensuring local connectivity under global contracts, which accommodates local data sovereignty and regulatory compliance concerns.
