    EE Activates 5G Standalone Network Across 15 UK Cities with AI-Powered Automation

    EE, the mobile division of BT, has extended its 5G capabilities by launching 5G Standalone (5G SA) services in 15 UK cities, marking a significant milestone in its network evolution. The operator claims to offer "near uninterrupted outdoor coverage" in each city where 5G SA is active.

    This rollout leans on AI-assisted automation to bolster network reliability and optimise performance. Machine learning algorithms now support energy efficiency by putting mobile cells into sleep mode during periods of low usage—helping reduce power draw and operational overheads.

    In addition to the mobile network improvement, EE also unveiled its new WiFi 7 Smart Hub Pro, powered by Qualcomm chips. Paired with the Smart WiFi Pro platform, EE promises a minimum guaranteed speed of 100 Mbps in every room for residential customers on qualifying broadband tiers.

    The decision to deploy 5G SA across these cities reflects EE's effort to stay ahead in the highly competitive UK telecom market, particularly as demand for low latency, high-reliability services grows (e.g. AR/VR, cloud gaming, industrial IoT). Enhanced coverage outdoors supports both consumer satisfaction and more ambitious enterprise use-cases.

    While the public announcement focuses on 15 cities, EE appears to be setting the stage for broader expansion. As network densification, fiber backhaul improvements, and infrastructure upgrades roll out, these launches demonstrate the operator's readiness for the full potential of 5G SA.
