Ericsson and CelcomDigi Partner to Drive Autonomous, AI-Driven Networks in Malaysia
Ericsson and Malaysia's CelcomDigi have entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pioneer intent-driven autonomous networks, powered by artificial intelligence, within the Malaysian mobile ecosystem.
Facing rapid 5G adoption and a surge in device diversity, CelcomDigi needed smarter ways to manage network complexity. Under this agreement, Ericsson will apply its AI Intent-Based Operations (IBO) platform, enabling self-optimizing networks that streamline operations, enhance service quality, and improve performance efficiency. This approach promises differentiated experiences for both enterprise and consumer customers as CelcomDigi continues modernizing its infrastructure.
Reflecting Malaysia's need for intelligent and scalable networks, CelcomDigi's CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi noted that this collaboration represents a critical transformation. It will leverage AI and automation to evolve how networks operate—prioritizing speed, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
David Hägerbro, President and CEO of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, echoed this, calling the collaboration a strategic leap for the nation's digital future. He emphasized AI's role not just in driving technological innovation but in elevating user experience and operational resilience across Malaysia's telecom environment.
This alliance builds on CelcomDigi's ongoing efforts to bolster its ecosystem—evidenced by its recent partnership with PayNet. That collaboration enables SIM-based authentication for P2P transfers via DuitNow and ties CelcomDigi into Malaysia's national fraud response efforts. The new Ericsson MoU marks a continuation of this broader vision of open, intelligent, and secure service platforms for Malaysia's digital economy.
