Globe Telecom Leverages Nokia's API Platform to Reinforce Fraud Defense in Enterprise Sector
Globe Telecom has entered into an agreement with Nokia to implement the Network Exposure Platform (NEP), a move designed to elevate the operator's enterprise-grade security and fraud prevention capabilities in the Philippines. NEP conforms to the GSMA Operator Platform standard and is built to support other frameworks such as TM Forum's APIs when necessary.
Under this partnership, Globe will leverage Nokia's Network as Code platform and developer portal—cloud-based solutions that allow enterprise customers to access APIs for critical functions such as SIM swap protection, roaming status checks, and identity verification (KYC). These APIs are expected to serve as frontline tools in combating fraud and enabling secure digital integrations.
Joel Agustin, Globe's Head of Service Planning & Engineering, emphasized the urgency: "With cyberattacks on financial services accelerating, it is crucial that we make available network-powered technologies to our enterprise customers and help them safeguard against fraud." Globe's implementation aims to give banking firms and enterprises stronger verification mechanisms while ensuring flexibility in how network integrations are built.
Security is a top priority: GSMA reports show that about 85% of operators globally now view security as their highest investment priority. For many enterprises, fraud detection and prevention rank higher than deployment of advanced tech like 5G, fibre, or cloud. Within the Open Gateway and similar API initiatives, fraud-fighting APIs—such as SIM swap alerts, KYC tools, and roaming status checks—are among the most actively developed.
Globe's decision to join Open Gateway is part of a broader trend of telcos embracing open network APIs not just for innovation but for securing trust and integrity in digital services. Though Globe came a bit later to the Open Gateway initiative (joining last June), this Nokia partnership signals an aggressive push toward execution.
