Globe Rolls Out SMS Scam Shield on GlobeOne App to Safeguard Users from Text-Based Scams
Manila, Philippines – October 6, 2025 — Globe Telecom has introduced SMS Scam Shield, a new security feature embedded in its GlobeOne app, aimed at protecting customers from an increasing wave of text-based phishing and spoofing scams. The initial rollout targets Android users, offering free activation via the app.
How It Works
Once enabled through Profile → Security Settings in the GlobeOne app, SMS Scam Shield scans incoming texts locally on the user's device—no message content is uploaded or stored on external servers. When the system detects suspicious links or sender IDs that impersonate trusted brands (for example, "GLOBE," "GCASH," or "GLOBEREWARD"), it immediately notifies the user with a push alert.
Globe emphasizes that privacy is paramount: only harmful URLs or sender patterns are collected (not full message content) to refine threat detection models over time.
Early Adoption & Impact
In the short time since its preview release, more than 34,000 users have activated SMS Scam Shield. The system has already flagged over 13,000 suspicious messages across its user base.
Coco Domingo, Vice President for Product Experience at Globe, said: "SMS Scam Shield gives users more control and peace of mind. With built-in protection, they're alerted when messages may contain malicious links or impersonate trusted entities."
Broader Security Strategy
SMS Scam Shield is part of Globe's wider effort to strengthen the digital security ecosystem in the Philippines. The company encourages users to report suspicious messages via its Stop Spam portal (globe.com.ph/stop-spam) to bolster its blacklist and community defense.
As phishing and SMS spoofing grow more sophisticated—often leveraging IMSI catchers or fake base station technology—Globe sees SMS Scam Shield as a necessary first line of defence, especially until more comprehensive AI-driven protections are rolled out.
Globe urges all Android users to activate the feature through the GlobeOne app and help contribute to a safer mobile experience for all customers in the Philippines.
