Globe Telecom Creates AI Development & Enablement Unit to Centralize AI Strategy

Globe Telecom has formed a new business unit called AI Development & Enablement (AIDE) to centralize and accelerate artificial intelligence efforts across its operations. Set to begin formally on June 1, the AIDE unit is tasked with strategic planning, development, deployment, and governance of AI across Globe's business.

Leading AIDE is Anton Bonifacio, Globe's Chief Information Security Officer, who will also serve as its first Chief AI Officer (CAIO). The move reflects Globe's intent to unify disparate AI projects—in areas such as customer care, credit scoring, financial reporting, procurement contracts, and internal operations—into a coordinated, governed framework.

Globe's CEO, Ernest Cu, emphasised that the proliferation of AI‐led initiatives across different teams has created a need for unified direction, so that efforts are efficient, aligned with business goals, and responsibly executed. By bringing together planning, deployment, and governance, AIDE aims to enhance speed, reliability, and consistency of AI use in both external customer interactions and internal processes.

Some examples of where AI is already being used include credit assessment, customer service improvements, and automation of back-office tasks. However, Globe has acknowledged that without central oversight, such efforts risk duplication, inconsistent governance, or misalignment with policy and regulation. AIDE is meant to address those risks.

Globe also committed to adopting responsible AI practices. The new unit is expected to establish policies around data privacy, risk management, compliance, and ethical AI use. Globe wants to ensure that as AI adoption scales, customer trust, operational stability and regulatory alignment are maintained.
