Indosat Ooredoo & Nvidia Partner to Offer GPU-as-a-Service in Indonesia

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) is partnering with Nvidia to establish a GPU-as-a-Service offering in Indonesia, powered by a sovereign AI infrastructure built through local data centres. The agreement was formalised via a memorandum of understanding between IOH's Lintasarta, BDx Data Center (a joint venture), and Nvidia. It was announced during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Under this collaboration, IOH and its partners intend to deploy Nvidia's full AI stack to enable scalable cloud services. The goal is to allow enterprises, startups, and government agencies access to powerful GPU compute, tools, and software—covering infrastructure, bare-metal, and platform-level services. This includes adoption of Nvidia reference architectures inside data centres operated by BDx, enabling high compute workloads.

A core aim is to build sovereign AI infrastructure. That means in-country control over the data, compute, and operational oversight, addressing concerns around data privacy, latency, and dependency on foreign cloud providers. IOH emphasises that Indonesia can become better positioned in the AI race by having local infrastructure that supports high-demand applications.

The JV BDx Data Center, together with Lintasarta, will host the hardware and operate the GPU-as-a-Service model (branded as "Deka GPU"). The services are intended for high performance tasks — machine learning model training, inference, platform deployment, and other compute heavy workloads. Startups, enterprises, and public sector entities will be among the target customers.

Bayu Hanantasena, CEO of Lintasarta, said the collaboration with Nvidia will "empower the nation with cutting-edge AI technologies and cloud services, driving economic growth, job creation, and technological innovation." IOH also announced a separate MoU with Huawei to optimise public cloud apps and nurture local AI talent.

The move is part of a broader push in the region to upgrade AI infrastructure, reduce reliance on international cloud providers, and enable more local control. By offering GPU-as-a-Service, IOH hopes to catalyse innovation, speed up digital transformation, and improve competitiveness of Indonesian businesses in the global AI ecosystem.
