MásOrange Debuts as Spain's New Telco Leader After Orange-MásMóvil Merger

Orange Spain and MásMóvil have officially completed their merger to form a joint‐venture now operating under the name MásOrange, following regulatory approval from the European Commission and Spain's government. The new entity is a 50:50 partnership merging the two operators' fixed and mobile assets.

The merged company combines 37 million fixed broadband and mobile lines, positioning MásOrange as one of Spain's leading telecom providers by scale. The leadership structure has been clarified: Meinrad Spenger, formerly of MásMóvil, becomes CEO. Other senior roles include Ludovic Pech and Germán López as CFO and COO, drawn from Orange and MásMóvil respectively.

Financially, MásOrange expects synergies of approximately €490 million by the fourth year post-merger, up from earlier estimates (~€450M). These cost savings will come from shared infrastructure, network integration, scale in purchasing, and simplification of product offerings.

For now, the two brands—Orange and MásMóvil—are still in active use while the merged entity builds out its combined operations. There is discussion in media about the brand name settling on "MásOrange" or alternate combinations like Orange-MásMóvil or +O, but nothing has been definitively confirmed beyond "MásOrange".

Regulatory concerns were addressed through remedies: when the Orange-MásMóvil merger was approved, Orange agreed to divest mobile assets to third party Digi Communications, to preserve competition. With those remedies met, the merger was cleared, enabling the launch of MásOrange.

The newly formed telco aims to bring enhanced investment in network infrastructure (mobile and fixed), consolidate customer service, accelerate innovation (e.g. 5G, fibre), and leverage scale to improve service speeds and coverage across Spain. For consumers and businesses, the merger promises greater convergence, improved broadband & mobile bundle options, and stronger competitive dynamics.
