Ziggo Introduces AI-Powered Voice Search on Next and Next Mini Platforms
Dutch cable and entertainment operator Ziggo today announced a major upgrade to its Next and Next Mini set-top platforms: the introduction of AI-powered voice search and control set to roll out from 14 November 2025.
With the new functionality, users will be able to use natural language voice commands such as "show me only DC superheroes", "find a movie starring Kate Winslet", or "I want to watch a British crime series", rather than needing to learn a specific set of keywords or commands. The upgrade also extends voice control to core functions — including channel zapping, pausing and recording — all managed via the same voice remote.
According to Ziggo, more than 40 % of its TV subscriber base was already using voice features, and during the third quarter the platform processed over 25 million voice searches. These data points underscore the operator's confidence in the new AI-enhanced voice controls.
The AI-driven search function is embedded into Ziggo's existing user interface and will appear automatically for all customers on Next or Next Mini with the standard voice remote — meaning no additional hardware installation or upgrade cost is required.
This upgrade supports Ziggo's broader strategy to enhance content discovery and defend its aggregated TV service ecosystem against app-centric viewing behaviours. By reducing friction in the search and discovery process, the company aims to keep viewers engaged and reduce churn.
Industry observers believe the move is timely: as streaming platforms proliferate, TV operators are under pressure to optimise the user experience. AI-driven natural-language interfaces are increasingly seen as a differentiator in this environment. With this rollout, Ziggo positions itself at the forefront of voice-enabled TV services in the Netherlands.
